For the 10 Gables Niantic blog site (10gablesniantic.wordpress.com), Spithead Studios wrote and formatted a specific page highlighting activities in scenic Niantic, Connecticut. The “About Niantic” page provides a brief history of Niantic, its location and local attractions. The blog itself provides potential home buyers with information on the history of the house, descriptions of the interior rooms, along with some of the town’s history and activities.

“Niantic is a historic seaside village nestled in the highly desirable town of East Lyme, CT, ideally situated along the Connecticut shoreline. Downtown Niantic is well-known for its boutique shops, movie theater, great restaurants, community beaches and mile-long boardwalk on Long Island Sound… The town is rich in history and community activities, offering many cultural and entertainment events throughout the year.” (Quoted from 10gablesniantic.wordpress.com/aboutniantic/)

Spithead Studios just added a link on the “About Niantic” page to sectkids.com, another local blog, that did a recent write-up on spending a day in Niantic (http://www.sectkids.com/a-day-in-niantic/).

“Niantic is a wonderful destination for families. Whether you live in the area or you’re visiting from afar, it’s worth a day trip and we’re giving you all our favorite stops to help you plan your visit!” (Quoted from sectkids.com/a-day-in-niantic/)

Be of Good Cheer!

May the luck of the Irish be with you today!

May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live.

May your heart be light and happy,
May your smile be big and wide,
And may your pockets always have
…a coin or two inside!

Always remember to forget
The troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.

A Hundred Years Ago Today My Artistic Inspiration Was Born!

A hundred years ago today my paternal grandfather, Wesley Myers Gordon was born.

Wes (better known as Poppa to me) was a self-taught artist spending many of his days traveling via train in and out of the New York City where he worked a graphic designer and sign maker doing hand-lettering and illustrations. Over the years he was involved in a several art communities, where he enjoyed the fellowship of like-minded artists, furthering his passion for painting and sketching. Poppa enjoyed the simple beauty of rural landscapes, often paying particular attention to the flowing lines of trees and contrasting angles of structures of farms and back roads in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

One of my favorite painting preparatory sketches that he had done, was one of a lone tree that bears an uncanny resemblance to the magnolia outside my office window. My connection to the that sketch, prompted me to incorporate it in the Spithead Studios logo.

Although he has passed away, Poppa’s great sense of humor, social personality and keen artistic eye are still very much alive in my father, brother and me today.
